Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador has notified U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and Nez Perce Tribal Chairman Shannon Wheeler that the State of Idaho considers the U.S. Government and the Nez Perce tribe in breach of the 2004 Nez Perce Water Rights Settlement Agreement and the 2004 Snake River Water Rights Agreement.

In a Congressional hearing held last week by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Brenda Mallory, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) nearly shouted at Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers R-WA that the Biden Administration was not planning to remove dams on the Lower Snake River. From our editorial perspective however, it seems that Chair Mallory may have thought she was playing a game of “two truths and a lie” rather than testifying before a congressional committee.
The impacts of dam removal would have significant impacts on twelve Northwest counties in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. The report estimates that 7644 farms in these counties would have serious impacts. These farms currently generate $2 billion in annual sales.
